Your journey starts here.
We’re delighted to welcome you to the dojo. Starting something new can feel exciting and a little intimidating, but you’re in the right place. Every black belt began as a beginner, and our goal is to help you build confidence, discipline, and skill step by step.
At Stamullen Martial Arts, we focus on strong fundamentals, respect, and steady progress. Whether you’re joining to improve fitness, learn self-defence, support your child, or challenge yourself, you’ll find a supportive and encouraging environment here.
What to Expect as a Beginner
As you begin training, you’ll focus on the core foundations of karate, known as Kihon (basics). These movements are the building blocks for everything you will learn later.
In your first weeks, you’ll start practicing:
- How to make a proper fist & basic punching technique
- Rising block
- Outside block
- Inside block
These techniques will help you develop coordination, balance, focus, and control.
Progress at Your Own Pace
Everyone learns differently. Some people pick things up quickly, others take more time — both are completely normal. What matters most is consistency, effort, and enjoying the journey.
You don’t need to be fit, flexible, or experienced to begin. Training itself will build those qualities over time.
What We Value in the Dojo
- Respect for others and yourself
- Patience and persistence
- A positive attitude
- Supporting one another
We are proud of the friendly, family-like atmosphere in our club. Beginners are always welcomed and supported by instructors and senior students.
Your First Goal
Don’t worry about being perfect. Focus on learning the basics, showing up, and doing your best each class. Confidence and skill will come naturally.
“Here you’ll find a series of videos to support your progression. Follow the movements carefully and practise regularly to help build confidence and improve your technique.”
We’re excited to have you with us. Welcome to the start of your karate journey. Oss 🥋
