Meet Sensei Seamus

Sensei Seamus O’Dowd is the heart and guiding force behind Stamullen Martial Arts. A 7th Dan black belt with over 40 years of experience in Karate, T’ai Chi, and Bo-Jutsu, he is an internationally respected martial artist, teacher, and mentor.

Seamus began his journey in martial arts as a young man, driven by a passion for discipline, movement, and personal growth. Over the decades, he has trained under some of the world’s most renowned instructors, including the legendary Hirokazu Kanazawa Soke. His commitment to lifelong learning and deep respect for tradition are evident in every class he teaches.

Beyond the dojo, Sensei Seamus is the author of many books including A Karate Story: Thirty Years in the Making—an honest and inspiring look at his personal journey through martial arts. He has also produced instructional DVDs and contributed to various martial arts publications, sharing his knowledge with a global audience.

What sets Sensei Seamus apart is not just his rank or accolades, but his teaching philosophy. He believes martial arts should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, experience, or fitness level. Whether he’s guiding young children through their first punches or helping adults refine advanced katas, he brings patience, clarity, and warmth to every interaction.

Students are drawn to his calm demeanor, his wealth of knowledge, and his unwavering dedication to their progress—not just as martial artists, but as individuals. Under his guidance, Stamullen Martial Arts has become more than a place to train—it’s a community built on respect, confidence, and personal growth.

If you’re looking for a mentor who leads by example and inspires through action, look no further than Sensei Seamus.
